At Boyd Insurance & Investments, we’re reflecting on the transformations our family-run agency has undergone, especially as we approach the official celebration of our 50th year in business on October 11. And, while we’ve grown over time, from first opening our doors in Bradenton to now serving all of Florida, our focus has remained the same: to take care of our clients.
There are around 40,000 independent insurance agencies nationwide, according to a 2022 Agency Universe Study conducted in collaboration with Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA). However, finding a large local, privately-owned company with a wide range of customized insurance and investment solutions – a firm that treats you as if you’re truly part of the family – is hard to come by, especially in Florida. As Boyd Insurance & Investments enjoys five decades of serving our community and clients, we’re remembering our roots, taking pride in the present, and looking toward the future as a family, with yours always in mind.
Our Founding Addressed a Hometown Need
Wilbur Boyd, our founder, was a serial entrepreneur who had the keen eyes to notice opportunities other people may not have seen. When he started Boyd Insurance & Investments in 1974 in Manatee County, it signified a chance to service the community’s insurance needs. He recognized the need for exceptional, personal service and we evolved into more than a typical insurance agency. Boyd Insurance & Investments is truly in the service business – focusing on what’s uniquely important to our clients and how our family can provide a safety net for whatever life throws their way.
It’s why our slogan is Protection for Life. We’re here to safeguard not only your assets but also the life you’re building – or have worked hard to build. From the start, our mantra was to take care of our clients, create strong relationships and approach them with professionalism and care. That has only continued through three generations of family ownership.
Why the Present Matters in Protecting You
Over the years, many competing agencies have sold to larger organizations. In fact, Deloitte indicated mergers and acquisitions may pick up in 2024. But Boyd Insurance & Investments has remained independent – and we’ll stay that way.
When it comes to protecting yourself, your family, and your prized possessions, that matters as we still answer our phones and respond to clients’ needs on their terms – not the terms of a large firm. Each relationship, to us, is crucial. Today, we’re working “smarter” and utilizing technology to drive efficiency, blended with the same client-focused service we have always held close. From Wilbur to Chairman Jim Boyd and now Austin Boyd, our President & CEO, each generation has seen the benefits of a personalized approach, and not only carried on that tradition but also made improvements along the way.
